PRODUCT FAQs

Why is Leaf Stopper better than other gutter guards?

Leaf Stopper ticks many boxes that other gutter guards do not. Here are some very important ones;

  1. It creates a ski-slope effect which give leaves a better chance to blow away, as opposed to gutter guards that are inserted and cause leaves to bunch up and not blow away easily.
  2. The system has been around since 1990 and therefore we know it works. Tens of thousands of homes have Leaf Stopper installed so that is a testimonial unto itself.
  3. Leaf Stopper is made from metal which makes it superior to other types of materials like plastic, sponge or bristle.
  4. Leaf Stopper is mechanically fixed to a roof as opposed to being stuck on with adhesive tape.
  5. Leaf Stopper uses a patented component called a Trimet which makes it safer and easier for Do-It-Yourself installations.
  6. Leaf Stopper is backed up by an Australian company and inventor who has been in the business since 1995.

Can the kits be customised?

Yes. Not all roof types are the same so sometimes a different mesh width is required. We refer to this as a customised kit. You can find your nearest store here and they’ll be able to assist you further with your enquiry.

Does it stop pine needles?

When deciding on a gutter guard it is usually a decision to between stopping leaves and letting water in.

In other words, it is a balance depending on your priority and needs.

If your primary priority is to keep pine needles out, then we suggest you use our FINE mesh which has a hole size of 1.8mm.

What leaf types does it work for?

Essentially all types of leaves, however, if your priority is to keep very tiny leaves out and other types like Pine Needles, we recommend you look at using our FINE mesh which has a hole size of 1.8mm.

Keep in mind that when deciding on a gutter guard it is usually a decision between stopping leaves and letting water in. In other words, it is a balance depending on your priority and needs.

Can I purchase the mesh separately?

Yes you can. In fact, all the components can be purchased separately if needed. You can find your nearest store here and they’ll be able to assist you further with your enquiry.

Does the aluminium mesh cause a reaction with steel roofing?

In Australia, most metal roofs are made from Colorbond or similar metals, which are steel products coated with a protective alloy of Aluminium and Zinc.

When you install Leaf Stopper on this type of coloured metal roof, you are using similar metals. Therefore, Leaf Stopper aluminium is compatible.

Aluminium is approved by Bluescope as a compatible metal to be used on Colorbond roofs.

Does it stop birds?

We have never heard of birds or pests getting through Leaf Stopper.

That’s mainly because Leaf Stopper is made from metal and it would be very difficult for pests to penetrate it.

Myna birds on top of Leaf Stopper.

What is Leaf Stopper made from?

Leaf Stopper is made from aluminium. Aluminium has excellent properties which make it ideal for gutter guards. In particular, aluminium is a long lasting material and is compatible with most coloured roofs.

How wide is the mesh?

The standard mesh widths are 250mm for Metal Gutter Edge & Valleys, 500mm wide for Tile Gutter Edge and 750mm wide for Tile Valleys.

Not all roof types are the same so sometimes a different mesh width is required.

We refer to this as a customised kit.

INSTALLATION FAQs

How much is it per meter?

For Do-It-Yourself, the prices are available by going to our BUY NOW link and entering your requirements. The total at the bottom right will provide you with your price. If it meets your needs, you can then proceed to checkout to pay.

If you are after a Supply & Install option, this is a little harder to provide due to many factors that determine the final price. Some of the factors that can affect the quote are:

  1. Steepness of the roof – these are more difficult to install on.
  2. Sloping land or difficult access.
  3. Whether scaffolding needs to be used.
  4. Two story buildings.
  5. Whether the roof is a simple straight design or many corners and turns.
  6. Total size of job to quote.

It is recommended that you complete the Find An Installer form and receive an obligation free quote.

Many times the installer will be able to give an approximate estimate by looking online using Google Maps or similar services, therefore they won’t even need to come out except to give you a final and firm price..

Do you install it?

Leaf Stopper is a manufacturer and distributor and as such we don’t install. Instead, we have trade customers who purchase Leaf Stopper and we pass your enquiry to them.

This has an important advantage in that you are not dealing with a middle person. In most cases, you will be talking to the person who will be doing the installation.

Will the Installer clean the gutters before installing Leaf Stopper?

BUSH FIRE FAQs

Can Leaf Stopper also be used as an Ember Guard?

The Australian Standard specifies that 2 conditions must be met when using a product as an Ember Guard. (Ember guards are used to stop embers getting into cavities eg vents, windows etc.)

First, the hole size cannot be greater than 2mm. Leaf Stopper FINE mesh has a hole size of 1.8mm so it passes this condition.

Second, Aluminium is specified as a suitable material for BAL levels of 12.5, 19 & 29. However, for BAL levels of 40 & FZ, Aluminium is not specified which means for these 2 levels Leaf Stopper cannot be used as an Ember Guard.

Is Leaf Stopper rated for fire prone areas?

Yes it is. The Australian Standard states that a gutter guard must be non-combustible when used in a fire prone area. Leaf Stopper is made from Aluminium and is therefore non-combustible.

ROOF TYPE FAQs

Does it work on a Bullnose corrugated roof?

Yes. You can use the Corrugated (Corro) Gutter Edge Kit.

Does it work for trimdek roofs?

To use the standard saddles, you must have a typical corrugated roof or a common deck roof like Trimdek, Monoclad, Trimclad, Superdeck to name a few.

All these profiles are from different roofing manufacturers but they can use the same Deck Saddle.

Gutter Mesh Install Step 3

Will it work for tiled roofs?

Yes it does.

The important thing to note is that some tile profiles are easier to install on than others.

As a rule of thumb, the flatter the tile, the easier it is. When a tile is very curved and has a large profile, you need to make more expansion cuts and be more attentive to how the second tile sits on the first tile to hold the mesh.

Another thing to consider is whether your tiles are nailed down. This is typical in areas that are prone to high winds. This means that only a small section of Leaf Stopper can be tucked in because when you lift the second tile the access will only be a few millimetres. So you may only be able to push in about 20 or 30mm of mesh.

Can I install Leaf Stopper on a spanline roof?

Unfortunately Leaf Stopper can not be installed on a Spanline roof due to the ripply (wavey) nature of the profile.

It is not possible to use a ski-slope type of system. In this case, we recommend you look at Insertion Systems, where the gutter guard is placed inside the gutter.

Can this be installed on a Kliplok roof?

Yes it can. The installation is a little different to Corrugated or Deck metal roofs.
