1. Sheeting - The LEAF STOPPER™ diamond shape replicates the 15 year tried and tested plastic Leaf screener system. This shape most effectively breaks down fast running rain water and prevents it from cascading over the edge of the gutter, better than most products.
2. Coloured surface coating - LEAF STOPPER™ mesh is powder coated during the manufacturing process. Some products are painted or powdercoated after the manufacturing process. Whilst painting may be effective to a degree, the final result can be an inconsistent spread of paint with blemishes.
Powdercoating provides a strong protective and insulating barrier around the aluminium, further enhancing the long life quality of LEAF STOPPER™.
3. Rainwater harvesting - LEAF STOPPER™ may be used in situations where drinking water is being harvested. For more documented evidence and information contact your nearest distributor.
4. Hole aperture of mesh -It is our professional opinion, based on over 15 years of the LEAF STOPPER™ system being used, and based on point number 1. (Sheeting) and point number 5. (Maintenance), that the LEAF STOPPER™ hole size of approx 4mm x 4mm is the most effective compromise.
Furthermore, a smaller hole size allows for dust, lint and other materials to be captured and retained. This prevents sunlight entering the gutter which results in dampness and moisture retention which may create a breeding ground for insects and deterioration of the gutter.
Meshes with smaller hole sizes have also been known to have moss growing on them.
5. Ease of Maintenance - There is a myth that has been circulated by some companies that once you put on a gutter protection system you never have to clean your gutters again. An honest company or installer will inform you that gutter protection allows easier and safer gutter maintenance. As long as gutters are occasionally flushed and leaves blown away, the gutter protection will continue to function. If holes are too small, then flushing and cleaning dirt and silt that might pass through is hampered. If the system is encased with a top cover, then the gutter will not be accessible.
Remember that much can sound good in theory, but what is of most concern is how a product works in a real life situation.
6. Insertion Systems - Insertion gutter protection systems are those that are placed inside the gutter, below the gutter lip level. A major problem with any system that fits below this horizontal line is that leaves and twigs will be trapped. Some systems even create more cavities, thus providing more "mini gutters".
